House Republicans Consider New Subcommittee on Government Efficiency
In a bid to combat government waste, some House Republicans are rallying behind the proposal for Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., to spearhead a new congressional subcommittee. This new panel, expected to be called the Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) subcommittee, would operate under the jurisdiction of House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky.
Emerging Support for Greene’s Leadership
Fox News Digital reported that multiple Republican lawmakers have already expressed their desire to join the anticipated subcommittee. Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., enthusiastically remarked, “Marjorie would take no prisoners,” and confirmed that he has initiated conversations with Greene about her potential leadership role. “I would love to be on it,” he added.
Another Republican lawmaker, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., expressed her approval of Greene leading the subcommittee. “Good for her,” she said, noting that Greene would be “an immovable object” regarding necessary spending cuts. Luna is also vying for a position on the committee, stating, “We’re going to make a push right now.”
A Broader Initiative: The Department of Government Efficiency
This move comes on the heels of former President Donald Trump’s recent announcement of the formation of an advisory panel called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Trump has chosen Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk to lead this initiative, which aims to “slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures and restructure Federal Agencies.”
Support from other members of Congress is already materializing. Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., who is part of the newly established DOGE Caucus, emphasized that the leader of the subcommittee should be “hawkish” on fiscal matters. “I’d definitely be interested in it,” Mills stated, underscoring his commitment to repealing outdated programs, reforming existing ones, and promoting awareness of accessible resources for Americans.
Greene’s Attention to Detail and Collaborative Spirit
Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., a member of Comer’s Oversight Committee, offered a balanced view on joining the subcommittee but praised Greene’s potential chairmanship. “One thing about Marjorie is that she’s locked in on details,” Donalds said, suggesting that her meticulous approach would complement the efforts of Musk and Ramaswamy. He also indicated that Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, would be a valuable addition to the subcommittee.
Cloud has shown interest in participating and voiced his support for Greene, stating, “Reining in the federal government and restoring accountability is one of the most important tasks we face in this next Congress. These efforts are essential if we are to support the mandate President Trump has been given by the American people.” He further remarked that Greene is poised to challenge conventional norms and drive the changes that Washington urgently needs.

As discussions about the subcommittee evolve, House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Harris, R-Md., expressed hopes that members with strong fiscal conservative credentials will be considered for positions on the panel.
