Homeland Security Secretary Accuses Biden Administration of Ignoring Migrant Abuse

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has made serious allegations against the Biden administration, accusing it of ignoring widespread reports of sexual abuse among migrants during a press conference held on Thursday. Mullin’s statements come in the wake of concerning statistics regarding the safety and well-being of migrant children at the U.S. borders.

Condemnation of Current Policies

“We’re going to enforce our nation’s laws, and we’re going to right the wrongs that the Biden administration turned a blind eye to,” stated Mullin emphatically. He highlighted the alarming statistics, noting that over a third of female migrants, regardless of age, reported being sexually assaulted before reaching U.S. soil. “It’s horrific what’s happening right in our own country because of four years of a blind eye that allowed unvetted sponsors to come pick up 450,000 kids at our borders,” he added.

Data on Ignored Reports

In a separate yet related instance, in May 2025, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) presented findings from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) indicating that 65,605 reports involving migrant children were either ignored or dismissed under President Biden’s administration. Among these were 7,346 reports of human trafficking, raising further concerns about the safety of vulnerable populations.

Investigations and Legal Actions

During the press conference, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced that three individuals, identified as illegal immigrants from Guatemala, faced indictments in the Northern District of Ohio. They were accused of conspiring to smuggle over a dozen children into the country by “exploiting the loopholes created by the last administration.”

“This is but one example. There are over 15,500 super-sponsor cases that we have identified, alongside the Department of Homeland Security (DHS),” Blanche explained.

Emotional Appeals and Personal Stories

Mullin’s tone turned emotional as he spoke about the responsibilities of government towards children. “What’s inhumane about taking care of our kids?” he questioned, reflecting on his role as a father of six, three of whom are daughters. His commitment was clear as he expressed willingness to act decisively: “I will move heaven and hell to go find these kids.”

He further pledged, “We’re going to bring you to justice. We’re going to charge you, and we’re going to work side by side with Todd Blanche and the DOJ to ensure you pay for your crimes.”

Reports of Negligence in Child Sponsorship

A 2021 report from the HHS Office of Inspector General shed light on the lack of rigorous vetting for child sponsors, with significant implications for the safety of minors. Alarmingly, 19% of sponsors had not undergone essential checks including FBI fingerprinting or screenings against state child abuse and neglect registries.

Ongoing Concerns and Legal Responses

While investigations have revealed numerous failures in the handling of migrant children, the Biden administration has taken some measures to address these pressing concerns. In July 2024, for example, the administration filed a lawsuit against Southwest Key, an operator of a processing facility for unaccompanied migrant children, over allegations of sexual abuse and harassment by employees towards minors in their care. Additionally, the administration began implementing recommendations for reform that stemmed from the findings of the 2021 HHS OIG report.

Government Response and Public Accountability

As questions linger regarding the administration’s handling of migrant affairs, requests for comment were made to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Biden office, but no immediate replies were provided. When approached for further comments, the DHS directed inquiries back to Mullin’s remarks at the press conference.

The Urgency of Action

“We found 146,000 kids so far. Some of these kids claimed that they were raped over 600 times,” Mullin stated emphatically. His passionate rhetoric highlighted the gravity of the situation, compelling leaders and citizens alike to recognize the dire consequences of inaction. “If you can’t stand for law enforcement to go find these kids, who are you?” he concluded, driving home the need for accountability in protecting the vulnerable.

The debate surrounding the treatment of migrant children remains a critical issue, one that requires thorough investigation and, ultimately, effective legislative action to prevent future abuses.
