A PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet, operating under the American Airlines banner, was involved in the crash. At the time of the collision, the aircraft had departed from Wichita, Kansas, earlier that same day.

The passenger flight was reportedly carrying 60 individuals. However, officials have not yet released specific details regarding injuries or fatalities stemming from the collision. As the news broke, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who took office earlier this week, acknowledged the incident through a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

“DoD actively monitoring,” Hegseth tweeted. “Poised to assist if needed. Prayers for all involved.”

Government Officials Respond

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy reported he was stationed at the FAA building, actively investigating the devastating event. Additionally, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt conveyed a statement from President Donald Trump on the evening following the crash.

“I have been fully briefed on the terrible accident which just took place at Reagan National Airport,” the President stated. “May God bless their souls. Thank you for the incredible work being done by our first responders. I am monitoring the situation and will provide more details as they arise.”

Outpouring of Sympathy

In the wake of the tragedy, lawmakers expressed their sorrow publicly. Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida posted, “Our prayers are with all families impacted by the tragic plane crash that just took place here in DC. Incredibly heartbreaking.”

Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears took to social media to affirm her thoughts and prayers for those affected. “My office is following the breaking and tragic news of a collision at @Reagan_Airport,” she tweeted. “We pray for the victims, first rescuers, and all those impacted.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on X that she was deploying every available U.S. Coast Guard resource to assist with search and rescue operations in response to the devastating collision. “We are actively monitoring the situation & stand ready to support local responders,” Noem stated. “Praying for the victims and first responders.”
