Army Veteran Michael Bouchard Announces Congressional Bid in Michigan

On the heels of a nine-month deployment to Iraq, Army Veteran Captain Michael Bouchard has declared his intention to take the political stage in Washington, D.C. Bouchard’s campaign will aim to represent Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, succeeding Rep. John James, R-Mich., who will be stepping down to run for governor next year.

A Fight for the People

Just days before Veterans Day, Bouchard articulated his vision for Michigan in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital. “This race is going to be tough,” he acknowledged. “I’m ready for that fight. I just got back from fighting a war abroad, and I didn’t take a vacation. I am here, and I am ready to go right now for the people of this district and for everyone who loves this country.”

Military Experience Informing Political Aspirations

Bouchard reflected on his military experiences that have shaped his understanding of the critical impact decisions made in Washington have on service members. “I spent about nine years in the Army; most of it was active duty,” he detailed. “I was an infantry officer in the 101st Airborne Division and later did intel for the 82nd. After my active duty, I joined the National Guard, and just recently completed a nine-month deployment in Iraq.”

Global Threats and National Security

Returning from his deployment, Bouchard illustrated his concerns regarding global threats. He noted the implications of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, particularly the deadly bombing at Kabul airport that claimed 13 American lives. Observing the reactions from world powers like Russia, China, and North Korea, he remarked, “I expected these nations to become more aggressive. A few months later, Russia invaded Ukraine.”

To Bouchard, the mantra of “Peace through strength” resonates deeply. “I have lived it. I’ve led soldiers on the frontline, and I understand what those decisions mean,” he stated. His military background serves as a cornerstone of his congressional campaign.

A Commitment to Veterans and Military Families

As a candidate, Bouchard expressed strong support for military families, vowing to enhance career resources and improve healthcare efficiency within the Department of Veterans Affairs. “When someone is in the military, their entire family serves,” he emphasized. Drawing from his recent experiences, he noted, “I can attest that the systems in place are challenging to navigate and need reform. I aim to help enact policies that better assist returning veterans.”

Roots and Values in Michigan

A third-generation Michigander, Bouchard is rooted in the community as the son of Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard and a grandson of a World War II veteran who later worked at General Motors. “I love this state. I grew up here. I was born here. I live in this district, and this is home to me,” he expressed.

Bouchard views the residents of Michigan’s 10th Congressional District as the “salt of the earth,” whose main priorities revolve around hard work, family, education, and living life without the burdens of overly politicized environments. “I want to rebuild this economy not only to win future wars but also to prevent them,” he asserted. “If we enable this economy to reach its full potential, we can ultimately mitigate the threats of future conflicts.”

Addressing Economic Concerns

Among his key campaign focuses, Bouchard delineated security as his foremost priority, coupled with economic issues such as housing affordability. “Housing costs are through the roof right now,” he acknowledged. “People are struggling to purchase homes due to soaring interest rates. We need to take action at the federal level to reduce regulatory burdens and bureaucratic delays that hinder families from achieving home ownership.”

The Stakes of This Election

Bouchard is keenly aware of the stakes associated with his congressional run, understanding that maintaining Republican control in the House is crucial. “This race has national ramifications,” he warned. “If we lose this seat and a few others, we risk losing control of the House. I am concerned that such a shift in power could lead to Democrats attempting to impeach the president for the next two years. I aim to stand with him and prevent that from occurring.”

A Call to Action

In the greater landscape of the upcoming elections, Bouchard’s commitment to service, proactive leadership and deep-rooted connection to the Michigan community positions him as a formidable candidate in the quest for congressional representation. His campaign reflects not just a personal ambition, but a broader pledge to support the values that so many Americans hold dear.

As Veterans Day approaches, Bouchard’s dedication to his fellow veterans and his community shines as a beacon for those who aspire to see a government that truly represents and supports its citizens.
