Samaritan’s Purse Supports Israel’s Recovery with Ambulance Donations
Jerusalem, October 2023 – In response to the recent Hamas attacks that shook Israel, Samaritan’s Purse is stepping up to assist in the nation’s recovery efforts. The humanitarian organization has pledged a donation of 20 ambulances to Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency medical service, with plans to increase that number to a total of 42 ambulances, including 28 armored vehicles designed to provide medical support even under hostile conditions.
Ambulance Dedication Ceremony
The official dedication of one of the ambulances took place during a poignant ceremony in Jerusalem. Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse, led the event alongside former Governor Mike Huckabee, leaders from Magen David Adom, and survivors of the recent terror attacks. The ambulance, which was funded by Pastor Greg Laurie’s Harvest Christian Fellowship, boasts a mobile intensive care unit that can operate effectively in life-threatening situations.
Messages of Support and Resilience
During his address at the ceremony, Graham drew a parallel between Abraham, a figure of historical significance for the Jewish people, and a first responder, illustrating the commitment to serve and protect in times of crisis. His remarks resonated powerfully with attendees, especially as he spoke to three women who endured tremendous personal loss from the attacks. Among them was Karina Engel, who not only lost her husband, Ronen, but also spent 52 harrowing days in captivity with her daughters.
In an emotional gesture, Engel placed a yellow ribbon on Graham’s jacket, symbolizing the hope and remembrance for all hostages affected by the ongoing violence.
The Need for Armored Vehicles
Huckabee, known for his staunch support of Israel, highlighted the continual threat that necessitates the use of armored ambulances. The leaders of Magen David Adom expressed profound gratitude for the timely donation, emphasizing its critical role in providing defense and ensuring the safety of medical personnel as they respond to emergencies.
Edward Graham, a military veteran and part of the Graham family legacy of humanitarian work, underscored the importance of delivering rapid medical assistance in crisis situations. “We do this because God loves Israel,” he declared, reinforcing the spiritual motivation behind their efforts.
Symbolism and Future Commitments
Each ambulance donated carries a profound message, with one vehicle emblazoned with the Bible verse Jeremiah 29:11, symbolizing hope and a future for those facing uncertainty. The timing of the ceremony coincided with Shavuot, a significant Jewish holiday, which added a layer of meaning to the occasion as communities come together to celebrate resilience and faith.
Moreover, plans are in place to deliver 22 additional armored ambulances by the end of the year, showcasing Samaritan’s Purse’s commitment to continued support for Israel as the nation navigates its recovery.
