ICEJ Emergency Summit Addresses Rising Antisemitism

JERUSALEM: The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ) convened an emergency summit this week, highlighting the escalating concerns over global antisemitism following the tragic events led by Hamas on October 7, 2023. This three-day meeting in Jerusalem comes at a time when antisemitic sentiments are proliferating across social media platforms, often propagated by influential figures with extensive followings.

Challenges and Responsibilities of Faith Leaders

Dr. Jürgen Bühler, the President of ICEJ, articulated a powerful message during the summit, emphasizing the interconnectedness of faith and the historical context of antisemitism. “Attacking the Jews means attacking the foundation of one’s own faith. This targets the people who gave us the Bible. Jesus was Jewish,” he remarked in an interview with Fox News Digital. Dr. Bühler implored church leaders around the world to prioritize the fight against antisemitism as a means of preserving their own beliefs.

“If you don’t combat antisemitism, you undermine your own beliefs. For the church’s survival, we must connect to our roots; fighting antisemitism must be a priority for every pastor and leader globally,” he added, underscoring the theological implications of antisemitism in Christian doctrine.

Examining Replacement Theology

A significant topic of discussion during the conference was the controversial doctrine known as Replacement Theology, which posits that the Church has replaced the Jewish people in God’s divine plan. Dr. Bühler countered this argument, stressing the importance of recognizing God’s everlasting commitment to the Jewish people. He noted that Paul’s teachings in Romans 11 affirm that “the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable,” a sentiment that reinforces the importance of Israel within biblical narratives.

“The Bible showcases God’s eternal plan encompassing the Jewish people. It’s impossible to ignore the Bible’s Jewish roots. ‘God’ is the most frequent word, with ‘Israel’ as the second. Jesus’ life events are linked to Jerusalem and its surroundings. Reading the Bible reveals the strong connection to Israel,” he continued, calling for a deeper examination of scriptural teachings in the context of antisemitism.

Messages from Israeli Leaders

Among the prominent voices at the summit, Israel’s Special Envoy to the Christian world, George Deek, made a considerable impact. Moreover, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee were slated as keynote speakers for the concluding event, indicating the importance of cross-communal dialogue in addressing contemporary challenges.

In a recorded address, Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed profound gratitude towards Christian leaders for their proactive stance against antisemitism. He articulated the urgency of uniting against what he termed the “oldest known prejudice,” emphasizing the shared duty of thought and religious leaders to educate the masses about the roots and prevention of antisemitism.

“Confronting antisemitism requires three elements: law enforcement, adjudication, and education,” Herzog noted, reiterating the collective responsibility inherent in combating hate.

Christian Voices and the Fight Against Antisemitism

Dr. Andrew J. Nolte, the founder of Regent University’s Israel Institute, contributed valuable insights into the challenge of antisemitic beliefs among youth. He highlighted troubling allegations that often surface, such as the accusation that Jews are solely culpable for the death of Jesus Christ. “Christian theology states we all share the guilt. Jesus died for our sins. This theological view acknowledges the shared burden for Jesus’s blood,” Nolte explained, reinforcing the notion of collective responsibility in addressing historical grievances.

Despite the criticisms aimed at Israel regarding its treatment of Christians—largely propelled by extremist viewpoints—the country continues to be regarded as a bastion of religious freedom in the region. As of December 2025, Israel’s Christian population stood at approximately 184,200, representing 1.9% of the total population, reflecting a modest growth rate of 0.7% from the previous year.

Notably, Arab Christians form 78.7% of Israel’s Christian demographic, accounting for 6.8% of the broader Arab population. Most of these communities are concentrated in northern Israel, while non-Arab Christians are predominantly located in urban centers such as Tel Aviv and Haifa.

The Role of Young Christian Leaders

Christopher Kuehl, founder of Present Witness and co-host of the One New Man podcast, raised concerns about the lack of biblical literacy among younger generations, which he believes contributes to misunderstandings about Israel. Citing a study revealing that only 5% of Gen Z strongly aligns with biblical teachings, Kuehl argued that this gap is exacerbated by the overwhelming influence of social media, which commands approximately eight hours of daily engagement from young people compared to brief church visits.

“It’s challenging to convey a powerful message in such limited church time against heavy social media usage,” Kuehl noted, urging faith communities to engage in more effective and meaningful dialogues with the youth.

Pastor Matthew Earls, affiliated with Eagles’ Wings Ministries’ Israel Christian Nexus, articulated a commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of Israel’s significance among rising Christian leaders. “We aim to teach biblical truth to prevent future church divergence,” Earls said, emphasizing the importance of solidarity with Israel and equipping believers with the tools necessary for productive dialogue and mutual respect.

Unity in the Face of Adversity

Sacha Roytman, CEO of the Combat Antisemitism Movement, concluded the discussions by highlighting the shared challenges faced by Christians and Jews in defending their faith and securing their collective future. “Rejecting Jews and Zionism also rejects the Christian,” Roytman stated, framing the fight against antisemitism as integral to the defense of faith for all Christians.
