Trump Calls for Open Media Relationship in Exclusive Interview

PALM BEACH, Fla. — In an exclusive interview on Monday, President-elect Donald Trump emphasized the importance of a “free, fair, and open media” in his vision to “Make America Great Again“. He expressed his belief that he has a responsibility to facilitate positive relations with the press, including those who have been critical of him in the past.

During the conversation, Trump articulated his ambition to transform the United States into “the greatest and most powerful country in the world,” highlighting his commitment to engage with the media in his second term.

The Significance of Media Relations

“In order to Make America Great Again, it is very important, if not vital, to have a free, fair and open media,” Trump stated clearly. This declaration reflects his understanding of the media’s role in shaping public discourse and opinion, despite his historical adversarial relationship with major news outlets.

In a notable meeting on Friday, Trump reunited with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe“, marking the first time they had met face-to-face in seven years. Trump conveyed that the meeting was “extremely cordial” and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to have an open dialogue.

Cordial Conversations and Future Engagements

Describing the essence of that meeting at Mar-a-Lago, Trump said, “Many things were discussed, and I very much appreciated the fact that they wanted to have open communication.” He also acknowledged the praises he received regarding his campaign, which he characterized as “great and flawless”, hinting at the significant effort he dedicated to what he believes is a historic presidential campaign.

The discussions touched on various cabinet positions, both announced and pending, reflecting the ongoing transition process as the president-elect prepares for his administration. “The meeting ended in a very positive manner, and we agreed to speak in the future,” Trump recounted.

An Obligation to the Public

Trump reiterated his belief that he has “an obligation to the American public” to maintain open lines of communication with the media, stating that the importance of fairness can dictate the extent of his engagement. “If not treated fairly, however, that will end,” he warned, underpinning his view of media relations as conditional based on treatment.

“The media is very important to the long-term success of the United States of America,” he conveyed, establishing a framework for mutual respect that he hopes will foster productive relationships moving forward.

Vision for Leadership

Trump asserted his commitment to doing “whatever is necessary to bring our country to the highest level that it’s ever seen.” He noted the progress made thus far in the transition process, and assured that he would be transparent regarding future developments, particularly in media relations.

He acknowledged that he currently holds an advantageous position, stating, “And while many others are calling for meetings, I am not looking for retribution, grandstanding or to destroy people who treated me very unfairly.” Trump made it clear he is willing to extend multiple chances for collaboration, suggesting a nuanced approach to dealing with media adversaries.

Expressing Gratitude to Supportive Media

While discussing the media landscape, Trump expressed gratitude towards journalists and media platforms that provided favorable coverage during his presidency and campaign. “They were the ones that kept me in the game,” he said, acknowledging the positive role that these outlets played in his electoral success. He added, “These people and organizations, and they know who they are, should be, and are, very proud of themselves.”

Rapid Transition Moves

In connection with his upcoming administration, Trump has already appointed many key Cabinet officials within a week and a half of his electoral victory. His transition operations are currently based in Palm Beach, Florida, ahead of his official inauguration set for January 20, 2025.

A Fair and Just Nation

As the president-elect, Trump reaffirmed his vision for the nation: “I will soon begin the process of transforming America into the greatest and most powerful country in the world,” he proclaimed. However, he stressed the need for the country to also embody values of fairness and justice, aspirations he believes will position the U.S. as a model for the world.

Trump encapsulated his forward-looking agenda by stating, “Hopefully, our success will make the world, itself, a far better and safer place.” His commitment to bridging gaps with the media and working collaboratively reflects a strategy aimed at ensuring both his and the nation’s success on a global stage.
