Trump’s Operation Midway Blitz Claims Success in Chicago

President Donald Trump announced significant reductions in violent crime in Chicago, attributing the changes to a federal operation known as “Operation Midway Blitz.” The initiative, led by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), has reportedly decreased shootings, robberies, and carjackings in the city.

Crime Rates Drop Amid Federal Efforts

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump claimed that since the launch of Operation Midway Blitz, shootings have dropped by 35%, robberies by 41%, and carjackings by nearly 50%. He expressed confidence that these positive changes were occurring despite what he described as “extraordinary resistance from Chicago and Illinois Radical Democrat leadership.”

Background of Operation Midway Blitz

Operation Midway Blitz, launched in September, is part of a broader initiative by the DHS aimed specifically at addressing violent crime linked to criminal illegal aliens in Illinois. Trump stated that both the state’s governor, JB Pritzker, and Chicago’s mayor, Brandon Johnson, have previously opposed large-scale immigration raids, which he believes hinders law enforcement efforts against crime.

The initiative was highlighted earlier in October, when DHS reported a series of raids that resulted in multiple arrests on what was characterized as “one of the most violent days” of the operation. During these coordinated efforts in suburbs like Cicero and Glendale Heights, agents faced numerous threats, including assaults and vehicle ramming.

Details of the Operation’s Violent Encounter

DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin described the day of the raids as particularly dangerous, confirming that one agent sustained injuries and several patrol units suffered damage. The targeted individuals included violent offenders and previously deported foreign nationals with criminal histories. This operation was named to honor Katie Abraham, a Chicago local killed in a hit-and-run incident involving a suspected illegal immigrant.

Political Tensions and Future Plans

Trump’s latest claims have sparked renewed tensions with local leadership. He accused Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson of obstructing federal law enforcement actions and fostering resistance against ICE officers. As the operation continues, Trump promised a “full surge” of federal agents in both Chicago and Memphis to further combat crime, asserting that initial results have proven effective.

The president expressed optimism that with increased federal presence, crime rates would continue to decline, stating, “As we ramp up more assets, these numbers will continue to drop.”

The Illinois governor’s office and the Chicago mayor’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital. Instead, inquiries were directed back to the President’s public statements on social media.
