Republican Governors Back Trump’s Initiative for Federal Efficiency

EXCLUSIVE: Republican governors across the nation have expressed their “overwhelming support” for President-elect Donald Trump’s newly proposed initiative, the “Department of Government Efficiency,” commonly referred to by its acronym DOGE.

Unified Support from GOP Governors

In a letter addressed to Congressional leaders and shared exclusively with Fox News, the governors stressed the importance of fiscal responsibility and the need for a balanced federal budget. They noted, “As chief executives for our states, we know a thing or two about streamlining government, removing unnecessary bureaucracy, and bringing efficient, result-driven solutions to state government. We stand by President Trump as he works to do the same with the federal government,” underscoring the parallels between state and federal governance.

Formation of DOGE Leadership Team

Shortly after his electoral win in November, Trump appointed some high-profile figures to lead the DOGE initiative. Among them are Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, known for his innovative business strategies, and Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate turned entrepreneur. Their appointment aims to inject both entrepreneurial spirit and fresh perspectives into the government efficiency initiative.

Congressional Oversight and Support

In recognition of the significance of DOGE, the House of Representatives has established an oversight subcommittee dedicated to this new initiative. Meanwhile, a caucus within the Senate has also been formed to collaborate with Musk and Ramaswamy, emphasizing bipartisan commitment to addressing government waste and inefficiency.

State Government Insights and Recommendations

The governors articulated that their success as state leaders is largely due to fiscal discipline and effective governance. They stated, “Our states are successful because we live within our means. We balance our budgets, lower taxes, leverage surpluses, pay down debt, improve the efficiency of state governments, and create an environment where our constituents can build a prosperous future for themselves, their family, and their community.”

Furthermore, they called attention to the need for the federal government to adopt similar practices, declaring, “It is past time for Washington to live within its means too. We support President Trump’s appointment of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy and agree with their assertion that the federal government needs to be cut down to size. We stand ready to help.”

Signatories of the Letter

The letter, spearheaded by the Republican Governors Association (RGA) policy chair Governor Henry McMaster of South Carolina, was endorsed by RGA chair Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia, among others. In total, 26 Republican governors added their names to the letter, expressing wide-ranging support for the initiative.

The list of supporting governors includes:

  • Governor Kay Ivey of Alabama
  • Governor Mike Dunleavy of Alaska
  • Governor Sarah Sanders of Arkansas
  • Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida
  • Governor Brad Little of Idaho
  • Governor Eric Holcomb of Indiana
  • Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa
  • Governor Jeff Landry of Louisiana
  • Governor Tate Reeves of Mississippi
  • Governor Mike Parson of Missouri
  • Governor Greg Gianforte of Montana
  • Governor Jim Pillen of Nebraska
  • Governor Joe Lombardo of Nevada

  • Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee
  • Governor Greg Abbott of Texas
  • Governor Spencer Cox of Utah
  • Governor Glenn Youngkin of Virginia
  • Governor Jim Justice of West Virginia
  • Governor Mark Gordon of Wyoming

The lone governor who did not sign the letter was Phil Scott of Vermont. Despite being a long-standing member of the RGA, Scott has historically refrained from endorsing many of their letters, emphasizing his independent stance within the party.

A Meeting in Palm Beach

Interestingly, the letter was sent to Congressional leaders just a day after several GOP governors dined with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida. This meeting highlighted a unified front among Republican leaders planning to advance their objectives as they collaborate with Trump on the federal level.

The Future of DOGE

The establishment of DOGE is seen as a significant step towards achieving a more efficient federal government. With the backing of numerous state governors and influential leaders like Musk and Ramaswamy, DOGE aims to tackle wasteful spending and promote a culture of accountability and efficiency within the federal structure.

As the nation’s political landscape evolves, the success of this initiative could hinge on the cooperation between state and federal leadership, offering a potential blueprint for reform and revitalization of government operations at all levels.
