Alabama notably executed a prisoner using nitrogen gas last year, the first execution in the U.S. using this method since lethal injections became the standard in 1982.

The executions will take place at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola, where the facility is responsible for ensuring the procedures are conducted correctly.
