Trump Announces Major Strike Against Tren de Aragua Leader

In a significant military operation, President Donald Trump proclaimed that the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) executed a decisive strike against Hector Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, commonly referred to as Niño Guerrero, the notorious head of the Tren de Aragua (TdA) criminal organization.

Operation Overview

On Friday evening, President Trump announced the successful military action which he described as a “swift and lethal kinetic strike.” This operation targeted the leader of a gang that has terrorized both American citizens and the local populations in Venezuela. The U.S. Department of State had previously placed a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to Guerrero’s arrest or conviction due to his extensive criminal activities.

Background on Tren de Aragua

The Tren de Aragua originated as a prison gang in Venezuela’s Aragua state but has since evolved into a significant transnational criminal enterprise under Guerrero’s leadership. The State Department has classified the organization as a Foreign Terrorist Organization due to its violent activities and drug trafficking.

Guerrero’s rise to power was facilitated during his incarceration at the Tocorón Prison, where he orchestrated a network of extortion and bribery, gaining control over inmates and prison staff. Subsequently, the gang managed to exert influence over various illicit operations, including drug routes along the Caribbean coast and control of gold mines in Bolivar state.

Trump’s Assertions

In a statement on Truth Social, President Trump emphasized the implications of this military action, noting its importance in protecting American citizens. He stated, “Before I returned to office, Joe Biden opened our Southern Border to millions of Illegal Criminals.” Trump criticized the current administration’s handling of border security and reiterated his commitment to combating criminal organizations that threaten American lives.

Trump asserted that this operation would serve as retribution for families of crime victims, referencing individuals like 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray and 22-year-old Laken Reilly, among others who have suffered at the hands of violent criminals.

Collaboration with Venezuelan Authorities

Additionally, Trump highlighted the collaboration between U.S. forces and Venezuelan authorities in executing the operation. “This action was coordinated closely with our friends in Venezuela, with whom we are working very well,” Trump stated, reinforcing the notion that Tren de Aragua terrorists no longer have safe havens either in Venezuela or beyond.

The president declared, “Under my leadership, we will find these vicious murderers and drug lords anytime, anyplace, and send them to the depths of hell where they belong.”

Continued Threats of Tren de Aragua

Despite the successful strike against Guerrero, experts caution that the threat posed by Tren de Aragua may not be entirely eradicated. The organization’s extensive network and influence throughout South America mean that combating its activities requires a coordinated and sustained effort.

The U.S. government has announced that it will continue to engage in efforts to dismantle criminal enterprises and protect its borders against illegal activities stemming from these organizations.
